Toads exploding in Germany
Apr 26, 2005 / 28 Replies — Ok, this is definitely a topic-worthy news headline. According to the BBC, toads in Germany have begun to explode. Nobody knows why.GeForce 6800 SLI review w/ benchmarks
Nov 29, 2004 / 9 Replies — For those interested, TechReport has an excellent review on running dual GeForce 6800 Ultras in SLI mode. Bottom line seems to be you get double the speed running at high resolutions with antialiasing. But they also appear to suck up double the power, and generate twice the heat - resulting in stability problems. Course, you can always hook a radiator from a Mustang up to your box...Bullet-proof bed

Aug 4, 2004 / 2 Replies — I always thought posting of system specs was rather lame, but here I'm doing it. Maybe because my system has always kind of sucked. But when Doom 3 went gold I bit the bullet and bought a new system. I opted for a 3Ghz hyperthreaded 800Mhz bus with 1GB of 400Mhz ram from Dell. The most notable part of my system though is the Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD with a 16ms response time. The LCD cost as much as the rest of the system. I also picked up a GeForce 6800 128MB, which I overclocked from 325Mhz to a whopping 400Mhz.
Last night I played Far Cry at the LCD's native resolution of 1600x1200 with all the visual settings MAXED (minus antialiasing) at an average of 50-60 FPS without the card becoming much warmer than room temperature.
For those wondering, the 2001FP was crystal clear with no ghosting of any kind. I don't think I could go back to a CRT now.
The 6800 is very stable and tweakable. The system came with a puny 150W power supply, so I replaced it with a 450W and the card ran great. All the 6800 cards require a dedicated 4-pin hard drive power plug attached to the card directly.
Overall the best gaming experience I've had yet in terms of speed and visual quality. I bought Doom 3 yesterday but still haven't had a chance to play it.
